Recent events on the Syrian border. What did the spokesmen of which country say?

  • Turkey has informed NATO that it will carry out an operation against Syria / Idlib, and asked NATO to conduct an interceptor flight over the city.
  • U.S. Department of Defense: The Syrian regime cannot be expected to reach a conclusion without stopping its attacks in Idlib, and we will continue to put pressure in this process.
  • Turkey’s Representative to the UN: We will not abandon observation bases in Idlib. The Syrian regime must withdraw by the end of February and we will use force if necessary. Any target that threatens our troops will be shot.
  • UN Special Representative for Syria: We demand an immediate ceasefire in the Syrian / Idlib region. The situation in this region could have very serious consequences.
  • US Representative to UN: US stands by NATO ally Turkey and our support will continue.
  • Russia’s U. N. representative: the Syrian regime must fully control all areas in Syria, including oil fields. We will support the Assad government for its legitimate operation
  • The United States, Britain and Germany have called on the Syrian regime to end Turkey’s attacks on observation posts in Idlib.
